There are times when you can do a lot of good by playing a game. Stop by Free Rice and test how many word you know.
The more words you know the more grains of rice fit into the bowl. If you miss a word, no problem. The game will adjust to your vocabulary level and you build from there.
I wish I could say that for humanitarian reasons I return to the game again and again. I am not that evolved. I want to break past word level 50. It is so frustrating! I punk out at 42 and slide back words.
There is a much higher purpose than playing the game. You help to feed another person somewhere on the planet. This is part of a greater initiative.
Twenty two developing countries have pledge 0 .7% of their annual income to donate to a world pool of $195 billion dollars per year. Some countries have met their goal, others like the United States of American have yet to contribute. So whether you want to feed another person or make it to level 50 in victorious style make time to visit and drop something in the bowl.

Internet Archive Library Collection Development Blog
Oh the joy, the rapture! There is so much good stuff here I don't know where to begin. The Internet Archive main purpose is to record and display historical materials that are in a digital format.
If you start collecting items you have to have some kind of collection development process. Part of that process is to display the goodies that you have acquired so that your patrons have a reason to stop by and use the collection.

Library Assistant Romance Novels
This is too cool. Not just librarian romance novels but library assistance romance books from the 1930's to the 1960s.
Jen Wolf has put together a review of a collection of 23 books that featured librarians, library assistance and even bookmobile workers all sorting books while looking for love.
The pay is lousy, but the perks, you gotta love the perks of the job. Gosh I wish I had found this site last week!

What Are You Worth? Salary Guides
One of the most annoying things about finding a job is being asked "What is your salary range?" My mischievous side wants to say "$100,000 base with full benefits, liberal vacation time and a cookie."
However in the real world it is a challenge to find out the salary range, particularly if you don't know what the actual base level of the salary is in the first place. Knowing the salary range can help you negotiate to a higher starting salary or the inclusion of perks to make it worth you time.
Before we jump into salary resources, I have the need to beg, implore and otherwise strongly suggest that you know what your true budget requirements, what does your lifestyle require and the income you need to support it. There are times when you do have to take the first thing offered but even then take a moment to make sure this is a good financial match.
Certainly you should pay a visit to the PCC Student Services Career Center in Building L Room 103, the online version contains links to many helpful and vetted sources of information. Use both!

Pay Scale.com and ERI have figures for LT and Assistants. The good news is that California techs seem to be paid more but when you factor in our cost of living expenses it balances out with other cities.

A gazetteer is a geographical dictionary or directory. It can be a list of names or characteristics of a location. Most gazetteer citations have descriptive or statistical information associated with a specific place.
Gazetteers are great for learning about area history, they can be used for genealogy research and as a way to prepare for a vacation or travel plans. This is a brief survey of some of the web based gazetteers.
The Columbia Gazetteer on Bartleby is a good place to start. You can search for information on Canada, United States, Mexico and the Carribean by typing the name of the location.
You can also select from an alphabetical index. This is a year 2000 version of the directory.
It is not to be confused with the subscription services at Columbia Gazetteer Online. This version, published by Columbia University Press, is a complete encyclopedia of geographic locations.
The most bare bones version of an online gazetteer is located at the U.S. Census Bureau Gazetteer.
You can type in the name or the zip code of your location. You will then view results from the 1990 Census about your area.
At this site you can also get the current world population, pictures of national flags, and a variety of statistical information. World Gazetteer data can be displayed in English, Spanish, French and German.
The USGS Planetary Nomenclature is a listing of planet names and their astro-locations. Click a planet, find the region or area and you with see statistical information. You can also download images and topographical maps of the planets as well as links to interactive maps and photography.

Terms of Employment:
The salary range is $1535 to $19.60 for a 19 hour work week. This is a 12 month position.
Position Definition:
Under general supervision, to perform clerical and technical duties and assist with the overall operation of the Library and Learning Resources program; assist students, faculty, staff and the public.
Physical Requirements:
Associate degree in library and information technology or equivalent. One year of experience with computers in the workplace or the successful completion of 3 semester units of office software courses. Library experience preferred.
